In 2018, Romania had 1849 urban waste water agglomerations of more then 2 000 population equivalent (p.e). These agglomerations generated a total load of 19 973 439 p.e. 62% of this load is connected to collecting systems and 2% addressed through Individual and Appropriate Systems (storage or septic tanks, micro-stations,...). These agglomerations are connected to 32 primary treatment plant, 348 secondary treatment plants and 262 more stringent treatment plants. All these treatment plants have a total design capacity of 20 376 963 p.e.
