In 2018, Portugal had 453 urban waste water agglomerations of more then 2 000 population equivalent (p.e). These agglomerations generated a total load of 12 958 690 p.e. 100% of this load is connected to collecting systems and 0% addressed through Individual and Appropriate Systems (storage or septic tanks, micro-stations,...). These agglomerations are connected to 7 primary treatment plant, 276 secondary treatment plants and 195 more stringent treatment plants. All these treatment plants have a total design capacity of 16 915 282 p.e.

Water re-use

2018 : 1.2 % of treated waste water are re-used.
Explanation : ERSAR-RASARP 2019,VOL1. Most of the waste water reused (i.e. 88% of the 1,2%) was used in the treatment plant area itself, for example, for irrigation of green spaces and/or washing equipment. Only a small amount (i.e. 12% of the 1,2%) was used by external entities.
